Over the past two days, the internet has kind of exploded in defense of me. People I’ve never met were trumpeting my cause with all their might, and I can’t begin to tell you how much I’ve appreciated it.

So, it is with a happy heart that I tell you this: Hot Topic will not be reordering the shirt. They’re going to sell off the remaining units (it was in “test markets”, so there are probably more Sandwich Dinosaurs in the world than Awesome Monsters), and then end it there, which is fine by me. With the number of stores they have, it would be hell of expensive to get all the shirts back and then just toss ‘em, so I can’t expect them to break their backs. All I ever wanted was for it to stop, and now it looks like it will.

There has been a lot of name-calling and mudslinging going on the past couple of days. Honestly, when I first posted this, I spent about half of the day Wednesday depressed as hell, feeling like a total scumbag, because even though I wasn’t doing any name-calling, Hot Topic and Goodie Two Sleeves are companies run and staffed by people just like us, and they were getting dragged over the coals. They’re real people, and through all of this they’ve been very understanding and polite, and a part of me gets upset seeing anyone dragged down. I was thankful that so many of you were willing to go to bat for me, but it’s hard to shake being a Nice Guy, even when you have to stand up for yourself.

So, let me set the record straight. Hot Topic has the concerns of the indie designer in mind, and let this stand as proof. Even though they’re a $100 million dollar corporation, the people behind it are all still very cool, and very understanding.

Goodie Two Sleeves, despite the fact that my tastes and their tastes don’t quite match up sometimes, have been good guys, and any bad blood between us was just a matter of two dudes trying to protect the empires they’ve worked so hard to build. Of course, they will soon have the option to sell the design through themselves or another vendor, so we will cross that bridge if we come to it? No, wait, we will cross that bridge if they build it? I don’t know. But seriously, please, it’s not like Goodie Two Sleeves was ever out to hurt me - sometimes this kind of stuff happens, and it’s just business. So stop being so mean! It makes me feel bad.

And let me just say that I actually do like this design of theirs, though the black taco meat is a little dubious!

To thank all of you for your support, I’ll be introducing a new feature in the shop - SANDWICH DINOSAUR COMBO PACKS! Now, when you order any other shirt, you can get as many Sandwich Dinosaurs as you want for way cheaper! I’m thinking probably $15 or $16 each, which is wayyy cheaper than you can find ‘em anywhere!

SWEEEEEEEEET more dinosaur shirts added to my collection!!! MUAHAAHAHAHAHA

I’m glad it’s all turned out to suit your wishes! If I was too mean, I’m sorry. In my defense, I’ll say that I tried to be more confrontational to get more attention paid to the story.

P.S. Maybe it’s beans and not meat?

oh dude dude it’s all good, it happens.

Sounds great David. I am happy that you are satisfied with the outcome and it is great to know that both HT and Goodie were being so good about everything. The nice guy does win!!!

It was a pleasure to champion the cause!

sorry if I was mean I guess it comes naturally. =/

[...] Once they sell out of the dinosaur design by Goodie Two Shoes in their test market stores, Hot Topic… Hurray! Another retailer might pick it up… but hopefully not. Congratulations, David! [...]

Awww it’s okay Mom. I think it’s kind of funny that even my own mom was out there calling people unethical pieces of shit!

Also this whole thing has kind of made me feel like this:

FAIR IS FAIR!

Hey, that’s great news, congratulations! I hope for everyone’s sake that Goodie Two Sleeves does not try to market the shirt to other retailers. Uncomplicated is good.

Glad all of that worked itself out. It’s good to hear that everyone can come to an understanding.

[...] All in all, I’m happy with the situation. Also, David has mentioned something about the Sandwich Dino becoming available in packs so you can get more for a lower price. You can read more about that and their victory here. [...]
